In December 17 ACHPER WA wrote to Hon Sue Ellery BA MLC to disagree with the Department of Education’s sentiment that camp schools are not the core business of education. As yet we have not received a reply to our argument that the opportunities and challenges presented in an intensive, cost-prohibited, outdoors environment supports and strengthens healthier, safer and more physically active living. ACHPER expressed concern that fiscal restraint was prioritised ahead of the health and wellbeing of young Western Australians, especially in light of the recent report from the WA’s Commissioner for Children and Young People: The Profile of Children and Young People in WA.
As the key association for Health and Physical Education in WA, ACHPER is committed to acting as a voice for teachers and subsequently developing a range of position statements to support healthier, safer and more physically active living.
Please look to the Advocacy section on our website for existing position statements but return during the year to see how we are progressing.
