Invasion Games Workshop

Inspiring Pedagogy: Teaching thinking and decision making through invasion games

Review

The Invasion Games Workshop was held on the 21st February 2018 with Dr Barry Paveling, with 33 teachers and coaches attending.

Participants were introduced to various warm up games, lead up games and practices aimed at encouraging student thinking and decision making. Various games such as Shadow Running Variations, Cops v Robbers, 3v3, and Connect 5, to name a few, were demonstrated using the grid system to attack and defend space.

Teachers were challenged to be more strategic when planning lessons, for example where the warm-up is related to the learning and the skill practices are embedded in the learning experiences.

Barry kept the participants active in the session, challenged them to think like students, and discussed approaches to keep students engaged and active. Teachers were able to network and discuss what practices and plans were used at other schools.

Thank you to Hale School for hosting the event.

Overall, a great event to kick off ACHPER WAs 2018 series of Professional Learning Workshops.
