Fundamental Movement Skills
The 2017 Fundamental Movements Skills 2-day workshop was held in October, and presented by Professor Beth Hands from the University of Notre Dame.
27 delegates from schools across the state attended the workshop at Murdoch University. The participants were involved in a range of theoretical and practical activities where they learnt how to assess student proficiency in a variety of fundamental movement skills.
Learning outcomes included the ability to run classes inclusive of children with movement difficulties, and be able to plan and deliver learning programs to support the FMS. Feedback from the participants was excellent, with participants stating they felt more confident in their ability to teach FM skills.
Professor Hands was one the lead writers of the FMS resources: Learning, Teaching and Assessment and The Tools for Learning, Teaching and Assessment. Case studies are presented and teachers learn how to individualise learning experiences and maximise the participation of all children.
