Secondary School Dance Festival 2018

Review

Congratulations to all that participated in ACHPER WAs Secondary Dance Festival on June 13th at St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School in Karrinyup.

The festival was great opportunity for secondary school students to showcase some of their work in dance. Eleven schools, 100+ students and teachers, and over 400 friends and family watching the dance routines!

Well done to all the schools that participated!

A few words from one of the School teachers:
“Just before the conclusion of the Secondary Dance Festival Rolanda Geneff, the festival co-ordinator for ACHPER WA, was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the dance teachers of the schools which had taken part in the Festival.

It was a heartfelt recognition that Rolanda ‘goes in to bat for us’ said Penny Morrison. She gets ACHPER out there into the schools and the work done by her and the Executive Officer Denyse Passmore is by no means just the MC-ing on the night. For the students to get to the point of actually dancing at the festival involves a lot of organisation by Rolanda and Denyse before the event.

The opportunity to dance in a professional venue with commercial lighting, a fantastic sized stage and professional sound is one appreciated by all my dancers and colleagues, even my year 12s who have danced at the ACHPER Secondary Dance Festival three times now. I have just asked my 11s if they would be keen to dance in the SDF next year and it was a unanimous ‘yes’. They seemed perplexed as to why I would even ask them!”

Our Primary Dance Festival is coming up on the 17th September!
